Project: City Identity for Yangi Toshkent

Year: 2024

Services:

Tashkent is the heart of Central Asia. It’s a city where the lives of poets, architects, heroes, artists, and athletes all come together.

It was home to renowned Uzbek poets Abdulla Aripov and Hamid Alimjan, as well as Russian literary classics such as Anna Akhmatova, Alexander Solzhenitsyn, and Sergei Yesenin.

Tashkent’s architectural heritage has been shaped over centuries under the influence of diverse cultures and eras. The city blends elements of ancient Persian, Arab, Uzbek, Russian, and Soviet architecture. Here, one can find Islamic landmarks like the Kukeldash Madrasah, neoclassical buildings from the period of Russian colonization, and modernist architecture from the Soviet era.

During the Great Patriotic War, Tashkent became a refuge for thousands of evacuees. The Shamakhmudov family gained nationwide recognition for adopting 14 children, while Sabir Rakhimov, the first major general in the history of Uzbekistan, became a symbol of courage and bravery. Art flourished thanks to artists such as Usto Mumin and Chingiz Akhmarov, whose works shaped the city’s cultural identity.

Athletes including Olympic boxing champion Ruslan Chagaev, legendary footballer Berador Abdurayimov, and world judo champion Dilbar Umarova brought international recognition to the city.

Throughout its history, Tashkent has been a crossroads of cultures and religions, uniting people of many nationalities within its walls. Drawing on this rich heritage, we created the branding for the state project “Yangi Toshkent”, symbolizing a new breath for the city — a place where the past and the future merge into one.

The Yangi Toshkent project is being successfully implemented and is currently at the design and construction stage.
